Guy: I thought it was an ingrown toenail but I actually had worms in my toe

Woman: Wow. Jenny*, what do you think of that?

Jenny: This is why we are issued with earplugs

My First Week Back At Work

Filed under: All Blogged — GG @ 11:42

The boring details

I went back to work on Tuesday and no longer do I get to call it quits and head home at 12h30. No, I’m back full-time which includes working on Fridays. This has been a very, very long week for me.

The most difficult part has been getting back into the work routine. During my leave I typically managed to get out of bed any time after 09h00 just to plonk myself down in front of the laptop. With a cup of coffee in hand I spent the next few hours catching up on my blog reading. On a good day I might make it into some reasonably clean clothes by 11h00. Then followed the debate about what I wanted to do around the house (clean out the kitchen cpboards) versus what I needed to do (play WoW). Most days I ended up doing what I needed to do. It was a rather gruelling routine and some nights I only made it to bed after midnight.

Now I’m out of bed just after 05h00 in the morning, on my way to work just after 06h00. There has been no WoW to speak of and no cupboard cleaning either. I’m struggling to get into the habit of an earlier bedtime because I really do need eight or more hours of beauty sleep a night - if I don’t get it, it shows. Hopefully next week will be a bit easier.

It’s been a good week for dreams though. On Sunday night I had a dream about Arno Carstens and Gwen Stefani (with an British accent) being a really cute couple in some kind of soap opera. Sometimes I was on the soap and other times I was just watching it. There may have been some kind of shower scene with me and Arno but I don’t know if that was in the dream or just wishful thinking.

Monday night I had a really incredible dream about being in a fantastic new John Cusack movie, complete with some killer choreography and witty one liners that had me laughing out loud. Just wish I could have recorded it somehow so that I could write the script, sell it to Hollywood for millions, quit my day job and move to the beach.

Not that my day job is all bad, in fact I think I can finally start talking about my career now, as opposed to my job, because I think I am finally on a path that will allow me to have a career complete with corporate ladder and power dressing. One draw back seems to be the “unofficial but required if you want to be noticed and move up in the organisation” overtime. I stayed late on Thursday. I’m not sure if the potential rewards are worth the price I have to pay in my personal life though.

Lastly, a note of hope for all you procrastinators out there. For weeks now my friends have been asking me if I had pre-ordered “The Burning Crusade” yet and the answer was a sad little no, making me feel as if they were questioning my commitment to the game, to my guild, to them. Yet I got my copy yesterday while those who had pre-ordered it are still waiting for it to be dispatched from the UK. (Mind you, they too ended up purchasing it locally this week.)

So that was my week, next week will probably be more of the same though I do hope to post a rant about a TV show that irks me no end. Right now I need to get dressed and get Burning Crusade installed and think about breakfast and whether microwave popcorn is a sensible choice for the most important meal of the day.

It has been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and judging by how my friends and I used to go about in the 80’s Madonna must have been very flattered indeed. However, plagiarism is just plagiarism.

My Geek sent me a link to this little gem. Look familiar?

What makes it really funny is this:
I have recently come in terms with the situations, circumstances and responsibilities that life has thrown at me. I have slowly learnt to accept it and move on with my life.
PLeaSE DoN’t coPy MiNe
(emphasis mine)

Then again, all my favourite bloggers have been plagiarised at one time or another so I guess I’ve finally arrived in the blogging world.

2007: The Year in Review

Filed under: All Blogged — GG @ 19:14

This year started off in quite an educational vein. It was in the very early hours of this morning that I learned that copious amounts of alcohol do not cancel out the effects of caffeine. Hence, I did not get nearly as much sleep as you would think I did considering I only got out of bed at 12h40.

Then I got the pleasure of seeing not one but two comments on my blog. Truly it is gratifying that folks still stop by here occasionally even though I don’t update nearly as often as I should.

Today was a lovely day in Cape Town, great weather for an afternoon braai. Food was fab and then I got to sit on my behind while my Geek did the clean up afterwards. He not only tidied the kitchen, he also washed the kitchen floor, took out the garbage and cleaned out the cat’s litter box while I read the Internet. I am so keeping him forever.

And while I was catching up on the Internet, I got to read the funniest sentence ever written: And then she said, “Do you want some panty liners?”

This year has gotten off to a good start, I can’t wait for the rest of it.
